MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Lake Erie College and host Pfeiffer University split a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Thursday afternoon as the Storm used a six-run sixth to score a 10-3 win in the opener while a two-run blast by Izzy Perez in game two gave the Falcons a split. Lake Erie moves to 1-8 on the year while the Falcons slide to 6-14.
Perez's day started with a solo homer in the bottom of the second to put Pfeiffer up 1-0 in game one. After the Storm responded with runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 2-1 lead, a Dalton Lindley single, Jacob Yates double and two-run single by Kevin Price put the Falcons back up one.
Lake Erie's big sixth-inning started with a Zach Mosberger double before a Falcon error on defense started to open up the Storm's flood gates. The big blow of the inning came with two outs and the bases full as Cody Blood smacked a bases-clearing triple to help give Lake Erie an 8-3 lead. Another error in the top of the seventh by Pfeiffer allowed the visitors to tack on two insurance runs. Pfeiffer would make four miscues in game one.
In game two, Pfeiffer would trail 2-0 heading into the home-half of the fifth until a Kyle Hackney leadoff homer cut the lead down to 2-1. In the sixth, Cole McGraw started the inning with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Aarin Sharpe. After a Matt Wade flyout, Perez came up with his big two-run blast to give Pfeiffer its 3-2 lead. Tyler Ring would then come in to shut down the Storm in the seventh picking up the save for Ethan Greene.
Hackney would finish game two a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate as each of Pfeiffer's 3-8 hitters picked up at-least one hit in the win.
Pfeiffer will get back inside Conference Carolinas action on Saturday hosting Limestone for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
