MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University completed its three-game Conference Carolinas sweep over Limestone College with a 7-5 victory in Sunday's series-finale at Joe Ferebee Field. The Falcons improve to 9-14 overall, 5-2 in league play, while the Saints drop to 12-9, 3-5.
A pair of Matt Wade and Johnny Brown, Jr. RBI-singles put the Falcons up 2-0 right off the bat before a Jacob Yates solo homer made it 3-1 in the second. After Limestone responded with three in the fourth, Kyle Hackney would tie things up as his groundout to second scored Brown, Jr. with the game's tying run.
The Falcons would grab the lead for good in the sixth using a wild pitch and sacrifice fly from Kevin Price before adding insurance in the eighth on a Yates run-scoring single. Yates, along with Brown, Jr., would each collect three hits in the win as did Cooper Gunter for the Saints.
Josh Branch got the win tossing six frames, allowing four runs, one earned, on six hits with three strikeouts. Jeff Barkley would pick up the save in the ninth as Hunter Jobe, Ricky Chambers, Jr. and Dylan Norris each held the lead in relief on Branch.
The Falcons are back in action next weekend traveling to Coker for another Conference Carolinas three-game set. Friday's opener is set for 2:30 p.m.
