PEMBROKE, N.C. - Pfeiffer University's Ethan Greene tossed a complete-game allowing just one run on three hits fanning seven en route to the Falcons' 10-1 win over Armstrong Atlantic in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday night. Behind Greene, the Falcons improve to 19-24 overall while dropping the Pirates to 22-10.
Pfeiffer got on the board in the second with a pair of runs thanks to a Kyle Hackney double to left and a Dalton Lindley base hit to left. In the fourth, Lindley plated Izzy Perez with a groundout to short while Jon Gray blasted a solo homer just an inning later to make it 5-0 lead.
The Falcons would use the long ball again in the sixth as Jacob Yates lifted off for a three-run shot to right-center while Gray followed with his second bomb of the night on the very next pitch. Insurance in the eighth would come thanks to a Pirates throwing error and solo homer by Cole McGraw.
Greene would nearly record the complete-game shutout until Armstrong finally broke through with a two-single run-scoring single in the top of the ninth. Behind Greene's arm, the Falcon offense pounded out 19 hits in the win as Gray, McGraw, Perez and Lindley each recorded three hits while Yates, Hackney and Kevin Price each had two hits.
Pfeiffer will look to carry their momentum into a three-game Conference Carolinas weekend series with King at Joe Ferebee Field. Saturday's series-opening doubleheader will begin at 12:00 p.m.
