BURLINGTON, N.C. - Limestone College took advantage of 11 Pfeiffer University penalties and scored three man-up goals rolling to a 16-8 victory in the 2013 Conference Carolinas tournament championship game on Sunday afternoon. The Saints got their offense going early to improve to 14-1 overall while the Falcons dropped to 12-4.
Limestone found the back of the net twice in the first 5:25 on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead before Cole Sheen got the Falcons at the the 8:15 mark of the first. After the first man-up goal for Limestone, Todd Nakasuji would score back-to-back goals to give the Saints a 5-1 lead. Elliot Gilbert and a James Shepherd man-up goal cut the lead down to 5-3 after the first 15 minutes.
Shepherd's goal just 2:16 into the second sliced the lead down to one before Limestone again struck for three of the next four, two again with the man advantage, to take an 8-5 lead into the half after Steven Tilmon scored for the Falcons.
Pfeiffer came out of the second half gate scoring two of the first three as Tilmon and Robert Hope each hit before Limestone went on their big run to separate the two teams. After Tilmon's man-up goal with 9:32 to play in the third, the Saints would tally the next six goals before Mike Triolo scored the last Falcon goal of the day with 7:51 remaining.
The Falcons will host Rollins on Friday afternoon trying to improve their NCAA tournament bid hopes. Pfeiffer will need a victory and then hope for a bid into the national tournament to be announced next week.
