MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University men’s soccer team was picked to finish ninth in the coaches pre-season poll. Limestone College was voted to defend its regular season title.
“We are motivated to prove the polls wrong,” said Head Coach Bob Reasso. “Our guys have been working hard and we are excited for the start of the season.”
Limestone clinched the regular season championship for the first time in team history this past year and then went on to complete the championship sweep by taking the Conference Carolinas Tournament Title.
Erskine was voted to finish second, and received one first place vote. The Flying Fleet return seven starters from last year’s team, including three all-conference players
Barton is picked to finish third after a pair of strong campaigns the last two seasons. The Bulldogs won 11 games in 2011 (most wins since 1998) and made a run to the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship game in 2012.
Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey round out the top five followed by North Greenville, Lees-McRae, King and Pfeiffer.
The Falcons kick off the season on Sept. 5 with a match at USC-Aiken at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Leonir-Rhyne on Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. The conference portion of the schedule begins on Sept. 21 when the Falcons travel to Bristol, TN to take on King at 4 p.m.
