WILMINGTON, NC – The Pfeiffer men’s cross country team raced in the Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington on Friday afternoon. In a 12 team field that included NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA teams, Pfeiffer's men finished seventh. Campbell won the race, with East Carolina finishing second.
Pfeiffer was led by senior Cody Jones who finished 36th overall with a time of 17:14 in the 5k race. “Cody is having one of his best seasons. He came back this fall in great shape and has been an important leader for our team” commented Coach Nolt.
Freshman Josh Wilhoit finished three spots and eight seconds behind Jones as Pfeiffer’s second runner. Sophomore Brandon Garren finished the 5k with a time of 17:46, followed closely by Nicholas Owens with a 17:52. Rounding out the top five for Pfeiffer was sophomore Henry Furman with a time of 18:08. Nathan Jarman and Cody Bivens finished sixth and seventh for Pfeiffer respectively with times of 18:41 and 19:22.
"I liked how we looked against some of our Division II competition." said Nolt. “We're really excited about this season, and have set some big goals for ourselves. Today we found out where we are at."
The Falcons added five freshmen to the team this year, four of which will challenge for the top seven.
Pfeiffer runs at Wingate in two weeks, when they hope to have four sidelined runners back with the team.
