WILSON, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University women’s volleyball team (2-9) dropped a non-conference match to host Lenoir-Rhyne (6-2) on Tuesday evening, by a final score of 3-0. The Lady Falcons were led by senior Anna Vizvary who posted a game-high 11 kills.
Pfeiffer had control in the opening moments of the match, running out to an early 7-3 lead after a kill by Shelby Younger. Lenoir-Rhyne cut the lead to 8-7, but the Lady Falcons scored three straight points to push the lead back to four. The Bears would go on to score 11 straight points to take an 18-11 lead. Morgan Bunker ended the match with an ace as the Bears won, 25-14.
Pfeiffer played its best set in the second frame, hitting .179 and drilling 13 kills. The Bears took the first five points of the set but the Lady Falcons came storming back. Junior Kelly Lancellot, who returned after missing six matches due to injury, smashed three straight kills to cut the lead to 16-15. Pfeiffer would take its first lead of the set at 21-20 after a kill by Kelsey Blauser, forcing the Bears to take a timeout. Lenoir-Rhyne scored twice in a row but Lancellot recorded another kill to give the visitors a 23-22 lead. The Bears rallied for the last three points of the match and won, 25-23.
The Bears took the third and final set by a score of 25-14 and hit .478 as compared to .074 for the Lady Falcons.
For the evening, Pfeiffer hit .119 and had 19 attack errors. Lenoir-Rhyne posted a .315 hitting percentage and had a 42-34 advantage in digs.
Lancellot finished with eight kills and Haley Denny led Pfeiffer with nine digs. Emily Wall dished out 18 assists in the losing effort.
Pfeiffer returns to action with another non-conference battle, against Winston Salem St. on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
