SPARTANBURG, S.C. - For the second week in a row, sophomore Brianna Jones broke her career-high tally for kills in a match, and helped lead the Pfeiffer University women's volleyball team (5-13, 3-5 Conference Carolinas) to a crucial conference victory over Converse College (4-15, 4-4). Jones finished the match with 18 total kills besting her performance from exactly seven days ago when she compiled 16 kills in the team's win over Mount Olive. Both record breaking performances this season have come on the road. Jones now leads the Lady Falcons in the kill category for the 2013 season, having amassed 126. Jones' 18 kills on the match were also more than any other player, with Jones' teammate Kelsey Blauser getting the closest with 11 total kills.
The Lady Falcons clearly had the upper hand in the first two games of the match, outhitting Converse 16-5 in game one with a .357 hitting percentage, and 13-11 in game two with a .333 hitting percentage. Pfeiffer took game one easily with a score of 25-18 and followed up with a win in game two 25-20. Despite besting Converse in the kill column in game three 14-9, the Lady Falcons ran into a snag and gave up the third frame to the Lady Valkyries, 25-16. Pfeiffer would quickly forget game three and with renewed focus and determination finished off Converse in game four 26-24, preventing a deciding game five and taking the match 3-1.
Against the Lady Valkyries, Pfeiffer boasted match leaders in every measurable category. Along with Jones' match-leading kill tally, Sophomore Emily Wall lead all players in the assist column with 25. Freshman Haley Denny bested all players in both the service ace category, with four on the match, and total digs, tallying 12 for the outing. Denny now leads all Pfeiffer players in the dig column for the 2013 season, having accumulated 200. The Lady Falcons also out-hit Converse for the match 56-36, and out-blocked the Lady Valkyries 7-5.
The Lady Falcons have little time to rest before they return to action tomorrow at Limestone College. Match time is 1 p.m. in Gaffney, S.C.
