CONCORD, N.C. - Behind sophomore center Silvere Aluko’s career-high seven blocked shots and sophomore forward David McNair's career-high fourteen rebounds, the Pfeiffer men's basketball team (2-2) defeated Barber Scotia College (0-1) Tuesday night.
“You have to take your hats off to Barber Scotia they made tough plays all night ,” Pfeiffer coach Jeremy Currier said. “This was a great road win for us. I was really pleased with how we finished the game.”
Freshmen guard Mike Smith led all scorers with 27 points on 10-15 shooting and recorded eight rebounds and six steals on the night. AJ Clark added 19 points and dished out a game-high seven assists. Armin Omanovic contributed eight points, four rebounds and two steals in 15 minutes of action and sophomore forward Joe Ledbetter added six points and ten rebounds on the night.
Pfeiffer dominated the rebounding battle with their 51 boards to Barber Scotia’s 28. The Falcons had 21 offensive rebounds on the evening, highlighted by seven from Ledbetter.
“Our coaching staff has challenged the team to be relentless on the glass,” said Currier. “For our players to respond with our best rebounding effort on the road is promising. David McNair and Joe Ledbetter made winning plays on the boards tonight. In both of our wins this season, David has had 10 or more rebounds.”
Barber Scotia was led by Keyvon Jones 16 points and Carlos Benton’s 14 points. Barber Scotia shot 43 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three point line. The Sabres cut the lead to six points with 8:45 in the second half, but was plagued by 16 turnovers that allowed the Falcons to pull away.
Pfeiffer returns to action in Merner Gymnasium on Monday November 25 against Bluefield State College at 7:30pm.
