RESULTS VS. BARTON (2009-03-09 10:00:00)

Wilson, NC – The Pfeiffer University men’s golf team seized 3rd place at the Hampton Inn-Barton Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a score of 310-301-611. First place Barton fired a 302-295-597 (+21) to beat runner-up Mount Olive by 13 strokes. The Trojans took second at 307-303-610 despite playing with just four players (lost one to an injury on Monday). All three teams compete in the NCAA DII Conference Carolinas.
The 16-team, 105-player field navigated the par-72, 6,851-yard Wilson Country layout a little better on Tuesday, when the temperatures cooled to the 60s. The average score was 80.47. Monday’s average score was 84.08 on the lightning-fast greens, when players also had to contend with high winds and a record high 82 degrees.
Mount Olive’s Scott Woodard (Princeton, NC) was the only player to break par for the 36-hole event at 70-72-142. His round Tuesday included three birdies and three bogeys. Finishing tied for second was sophomore Laurence Noott (71-75-146) of Pfeiffer and Mark McMillan of NC State (72-74-146). Seven players deadlocked for fourth place at 4-over 148. Woodard and Noott were the only players to break par on Monday. Six players shot either 70 or 71 on Tuesday.
The Falcons got a 75-74-149 from senior Louis Pitre (Quebec City, Canada) who tied at 11th and an 80-76-156 from senior Andrew Shiflet (Asheboro, NC), good for tying at 34th. Freshman Garrett Dranichak (Dublin, OH) marked an 84-76-160 and junior Marc Kourie (Johannesburg, South Africa) recorded an 84-83-167 to tie at 50th and 71st, respectively.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C. State, Liberty and East Carolina represented the NCAA D-I ranks in the event. All but ECU had enough players to post a team score in the event, but opted instead to score only as individuals. Seven of the top 13 spots were occupied by DI players.Barton Intercollegiate Dates: 03/09-03/10, 2009 Round: 1 * Individual Par-Yardage: 72-6851 Fin.
