WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ENDS SKID IN CONVINCING FASHION; FOUR FALCONS IN DOUBLE FIGURES

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Junior Carter Williams scored ten of her 12 points in the second half alone to propel the Pfeiffer University women's basketball team to victory over Conference Carolinas foe Lees-McRae.  With the win the Falcons improve to 3-16 overall and 2-9 in conference play, putting an end to a seven-game losing streak.  Lees-McRae falls to 9-10 on the season and 6-4 in the conference as a result of the loss.

Following a three-pointer by freshman Ariana Tillman with 9:31 left to play in the first half, Pfeiffer stretched a commanding lead over the visiting Bobcats to ten.  Lees-McRae would spend the rest of the half whittling away at that lead however, and by the time the buzzer sounded for halftime, the two teams would be deadlocked at 30 apiece.  The Falcons finished the first stanza shooting only 30% from the field, and while the matchup appeared fairly even up to this point, the second half would be all Pfeiffer.

Wasting absolutely no time out of the locker room, the Falcons went on an 8-2 run in the first three minutes of the second half to retake the lead.  The Bobcats weren't ready to head for the bus just yet, and following a run of their own and a layup by Kerri Belcher, Lees-McRae tied the game at 49-49 with 10:55 left to play.  Despite the push by the visiting team, Pfeiffer would never relinquish the lead, and refused to allow another tie or lead change for the duration of the evening.

Along with Williams' 12 points, three other Falcons contributed double-figure scoring numbers.  Junior Lauren White put up 14 points and was one rebound short of a double-double.  Also chipping in double-digit scores were freshman Alexis Stallard with 11 and Tillman who tossed in 10 points of her own.  The Falcons shot 52.4% from the field in the second half, crushing their first half numbers.

Lauren Lewis led all players with 22 points and Belcher brought down 11 rebounds for the game's only double-double.

The Falcons return to action on February 5th when they take on Mount Olive.  Tip-off is 5:30 pm inside Merner Gym.
