MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team dropped a Conference Carolinas matchup to Belmont Abbey Saturday night in front of a raucous home crowd. The loss drops the Falcons to 3-18 overall and 2-11 in conference play. With the victory the Crusaders improve to 16-7 overall and 10-3 in the conference.
Pfeiffer was led on the offensive side of the ball by the duo of freshman Alexis Stallard and junior Lauren White. Stallard led the Falcons in both scoring and rebounds for the evening, putting up 13 points and snatching 11 rebounds, good enough for the first double-double of her collegiate career. Stallard's performance was not unlike the first time Pfeiffer faced Belmont Abbey this season. Exactly one month ago, Stallard led her team with a 23-point performance against the Crusaders. White also put up double-figures in the scoring column, chipping in 11 of her own.
Belmont Abbey's Kelsey Long led all players with 19 points and McKenzie Owen had a double-double of her own putting up 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. The Crusaders shot 50 percent from the field compared to a frigid 19.5 percent for Pfeiffer. The Falcons stole the ball a whopping 17 times to Belmont Abbey's eight, but were out rebounded 54-40.
Pfeiffer returns to action on February 12th when they travel to Erskine for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
