MISENHEIMER, NC - The Pfeiffer men's basketball team (5-19, 2-12 CC) dropped its home finale to conference-leading Barton (16-9, 12-3) by a final score of 98-84 on Wednesday evening. Chris Flemmings had a monster game for the Bulldogs, scoring a career high 36 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the field. Flemmings knocked down six three pointers and hit 10-of-12 free throws while adding nine rebounds.
Pfeiffer was led by freshman Mike Smith who scored 24 points and dished out four assists. AJ Clark added 16 points for the Falcons, who were held to 37.5 percent shooting in the second half.
The Falcons ran out to a hot start in the first half. Matt Ellwood connected on a four-point play at the 14:47 mark to give Pfeiffer an early 13-9 advantage. Pfeiffer held the lead for the next 12:21 until Flemmings converted a three-point play to give Barton a 36-34 lead with 2:26 to go. The half would end with Barton holding a 44-39 lead.
The second half belonged to Flemmings and the Bulldogs. The guard scored 25 of his 36 points in the second half and missed only two of his seven three point attempts. Flemmings accounted for nearly half of his team's second half points as Barton outscored Pfeiffer 54-45 in the final 20 minutes. The Falcons struggled on both ends of the court in the second half, hitting only 15-of-40 shots and allowing Barton to hit 60 percent of their field goals.
Five Bulldogs finished in double figures on the night. Travis McEachern had 18 points and Daniel McClendon added 17 points.
David McNair finished with his second consecutive double-double. The sophomore forward grabbed 12 rebounds and scored 10 points and is currently the conference's third leading rebounder.
Pfeiffer will hit the road for the final two games of the regular season starting with a matchup at King on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
