MISENHEIMER, NC – Lenoir Rhyne (18-28) extended its winning streak to seven straight as they defeated Pfeiffer (26-20) by a final score of 9-4 at Joe Ferebee field. On a rainy and cool afternoon, the Bears scored all nine of their runs in their first four at bats to claim the victory in Pfeiffer's final home game of the season.
Ethan Greene started for Pfeiffer and fell to 6-3 on the season as he gave up 11 hits and nine runs in his five innings of work. However, the Falcons bullpen pitched four innings of relief and allowed only one hit.
Tyler Summers extended his hitting streak to 10 games with an RBI double in the ninth inning and Anthony Allende drove in two with a double in the bottom of the eighth. Kyle Hackney went 2-for-3 with two runs scored out of the eighth spot of the lineup and Jon Gray added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Eric Ryan tossed seven innings and allowed one run for Lenoir-Rhyne to earn the victory.
The Bears scored two runs on three hits in the first inning to grab the early lead and then exploded for four runs in the second frame. The big blow came off the bat of Ivan Vieitez who crushed a three run homerun to center field, his fourth homer of the season.
Lenoir-Rhyne pushed the lead to 7-0 before Gray put the Falcons on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly that scored Hackney.
The Bears scored two more in the top half of the fourth inning to give themselves a 9-1 cushion. Pfeiffer clawed back with two runs in the bottom of the eighth and one in the ninth.
The two teams return to action as they travel to Hickory, NC where Lenoir-Rhyne will host tomorrow’s doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
