Due West S.C.- The Pfeiffer softball team split a CVAC double header with Erskine on Saturday. Game one saw both teams battle back and forth before Erskine escaped with a 5-4 victory. Junior Dacia Ijames drove in all four Falcon runs highlighted by a 3 run homer in the top of the first inning. "Game one was a game we had an opportunity to win and just didn't." Said Head Coach Todd Bradley. "The team never gave up and I am proud of them for that." Game two saw Pfeiffer score five times with two outs in the top of the seventh to secure a 12-7 victory. The game was back and fourth most of the night cap. The Falcon's drew first blood scoring once in the top of the first inning only to see Erskine come back and take the lead. Erskine added to their lead as they stretched it to 4-1. Pfeiffer would not go away easy however tying the game at 4-4. Pfeiffer over came being down four different times through out the day. Ijames hit her second home run in as many games. Chelsea Morton started the game and went five complete before giving way to Amanda Beck with the score tied at 7 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Beck silenced the Erskine bats in the sixth setting the stage for Pfeiffer. With two outs in the top of the seventh and runners on 2nd and 3rd Ijames drew an intentional pass to load the bases for third baseman Jaimee Cassidy who delivered a two out two strike RBI single into left center. The Falcons then added three more runs on back to back singles by Sarah Moore and Amanda Beck. Beck then shut the door in the bottom of the 7th to pick up the win. "That was one of the best games I have ever seen." Said Bradley. "We played so inspired and never gave up. To continue coming back like we did and score runs with two outs takes guts!' The Falcon's scored 10 of their 12 runs with two outs during game two. Pfeiffer hits the road Monday to tangle with CVAC rival Queen's. Game time is 6:00 PM |
