|Misenheimer, NC---Matt Harris scored two goals to lead Pfeiffer (11-6-1) to a 3-0 win over St. Andrews Presbyterian (11-6-3) in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer quarterfinal action Tuesday afternoon. Pfeiffer advances to Friday’s semifinals where they will play the winner of the Queens/ Anderson game at 2:30 pm. The semis and finals will be played at Mount Olive College. |
The first half was fast-paced but resulted in few good scoring chances.
In the 23rd minute the Knights had a free kick from 20 yards out. Curtis Kiyabu sent a hard dipping shot that Falcon goalie Alex Moreno made a great save on to keep the game scoreless.
Pfeiffer had a scoring chance in the 28th minute when Renato Barbosa took a through pass and found himself open, 15 yards from goal. His shot got past the keeper but rolled just inches wide of the left post.
At halftime the game remained tied at 0-0.
The start of the second half was much like the first until the last twenty minutes when the Falcons exploded for three goals.
Wilver Menacho got the Falcons on the board in the 71st minute when he blasted a back pass from Renato Barbosa into the top of the goal for a 1-0 Pfeiffer lead.
Matt Harris gave Pfeiffer a 2-0 lead in the 78th minute. Patrick Treadwell found Harris open about 15 yards from goal and Harris put it past the keeper to double the Falcon lead.
With less then five minutes to play Harris finished the scoring. Menacho sent a lnog cross to the far post and Harris put the ball under the goalie into the far side netting.
The game saw a total of 28 fouls and six yellow cards.
