menvvmi.jpgPfeiffer Swimming traveled to NCAA division 1 Virginia Military Institute (VMI) to race both the VMI men and Randolph College women swimmers on Saturday afternoon. In a close meet the Falcons defeated VMI 114-108.

In a closely fought Men's meet, the Falcons managed to secure the win with several first place swims (each worth 9 points) and a relay win (worth 14 points) in the 200 medley relay. Event winners were Edwin Torres (1000 free, 500 free), David Angell (100 back, 200 IM), Vincent Gallegos (200 free) and Kevin Parks (100 breaststroke), and Kevin Parks, TJ Havens, Andrew Siegfried and Vincent Gallegos in the 200 medley relay. Best times were swum by Brian San Agustin and Mac Hance, and in winning the 1,000 free, Edwin Torres added his name to the school record list by eclipsing the mark set by Falcon sprinter Vincent Gallegos just last week.

Coach Hawkins commented, "While our times in general were not our best it didn't come as a surprise, following back to back meets last weekend and some quality work in the Merner training pool, especially yesterday afternoon. We've been putting in extra work on our walls which is one of our weak points and it was great to see quite a few swimmers improve in that area today. I think the best times we did see are an added bonus, and I am very excited about what this group will accomplish once we get to the point in the season where they will get some rest before racing. Days like today are all about racing for the team first, and the guys and girls are finally learning what they can accomplish when they pull together and support each other. Just having that roster size and strength alone is still not enough to win meets, you have to be able to get out there and compete on the day and we did that. We took some risks to get people a chance to swim some different things and fortunately it paid off. We'll be back at home next weekend to race tough conference competition Limestone College on Friday at 6pm and then the new teams from St. Andrews on Saturday Nov 3rd."
