| Pembroke, NC---Pfeiffer women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision Thursday evening at UNC-Pembroke. It was the season opener for both teams. A UNCP goal in the 42nd minute was the only goal of the game. Falcon goalie Suzie Hinman played a great game recording 13 saves. Both teams had a couple of shots on goal in the first 20 minutes. UNC-Pembroke started pressing their attack and in the 42nd minute scored when Sarah Day one-timed a Lefke Boysen cross. The score remained 1-0 for the Braves at half-time. The Falcons hung tough in the second half behind goalkeeper Hinman's great play but could not develop many scoring chances early on. With ten minutes to go the Falcons turned on their attack but were not able to put one past the Pembroke goalie and fell by a 1-0 score. Pfeiffer was outshot 23-5 for the game. The foul count was 13-8 in favor of Pfeiffer. Coach Denton said, "It was a very physical game. It was a good job by defense today espicially considering all the youth on the field." Pfeiffer will return to action this Saturday when they travel to Lincoln Memorial for a 3:00 pm game. |
