| Falcons Fall in Ninth |

| ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to come from behind and beat Pfeiffer University 5-4 Monday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The win improves AU to 16-31 overall and 9-12 in the conference, while Pfeiffer falls to 20-24, 7-14. The Falcons got on the scoreboard in the first when Bryan Braxton hit a lead-off double. Braxton moved to third on a ground out to the shortstop and scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead. Anderson answered in the home half of the first on an RBI double by Matt Hill and an RBI single by Blair Carson that scored Hill for a 2-1 lead. Pfeiffer answered in the second with two runs on three singles and a sacrifice fly. Josh Strickland’s RBI single highlighted the inning to put the Falcons back in the lead, 3-2. Pfeiffer added one more run in the sixth when Hayes Hinson singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a single by Strickland, and scored on a suicide squeeze by Ryan Brown to extend the Falcon lead to 4-2. But in the ninth, Clint Neville woke the offense with a lead-off double. Trent Still then reached on an error that scored Ryan Kirkland, who entered as a pinch runner for Neville. After one out, Andrew Davis doubled to left center to score Still and tie the game at 4. After Patrick West walked, Derek Hipp singled to shallow center to load the bases and set up for Roberson’s game winner. Braxton led the Falcon offense by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Cory Welch earned the win for the Trojans, while Andrew Oliver was saddled with the loss. |
