| PEMBROKE – UNCP battled back from an early 3-0 deficit to defeat Pfeiffer 9-3 win Tuesday evening in non-conference baseball action. The win improved UNCP to and gave the Braves a series split with Pfeiffer (22-27) after dropping a 9-4 contest on February 19 in Misenheimer. Pfeiffer used Cory Adams’s suicide squeeze in the second and McGarity’s two-run single in the third to take a quick 3-0 lead. UNCP answered back with lone runs in the third and fifth innings, before Funk gave the hosts the lead with two outs in the sixth. Locklear’s three-run home run, as well as a costly throwing error, allowed the Braves to cushion their advantage out to 8-3 in the seventh, with Bentley’s solo blast in the eighth providing the final margin. Pfeiffer got a 3-for-4 outing from Zack Pou, with Kyle McGarity driving in a pair of runs on a 1-for-3 hitting line. Amidst a bouquet of Falcon pitchers, Ethan Marsh took the loss for the visitors after allowing Funk’s two-run triple and surrendering the lead in the sixth. |
