|Misenheimer, NC---Falcon women rallied in what was a very challenging meet for Pfeiffer. Despite a strong start with a winning 200 medley relay, Brittany Byrum was the only swimmer to take a clear 9 points- winning the 200 backstroke in an event dominated by the Falcon women, with Hannah Fitzgibbons taking 2nd in her first meet back after injury, and Rachel Schmidt fighting hard for 3rd in her first full meet after injury. Freshman Amanda Singleton was also number 1 in the 400 IM after a strong swim for her, and Freshman Emily Belton stormed through the 50 back in the medley relay proving her talents at almost any sprint, and despite ongoing illness returned and secured 2nd in the 200 freestyle after beginning with an in water start which trainers requested she do. She repeated the same feat in the 100 free and will now rest another week before resuming training. |
Coach Hawkins said, "Even with our team at full strength, this is a strong opponent and one we definately have our sights set on chasing down. Unfortunately it wasn't to be this year, but we're getting better all the time. I was very encouraged by some of the individual swims, and even just by the way some of us look in the water. I'm feeling good that when we rest just a little for the invitational meet in Savannah we will see some great best times. Today was also a wonderful opportunity to recognize our seniors Alicia Phillips and Rachel Schmidt. These girls have played a big role in the progress that the Falcons have made in the last few years and they have been very dependable racers and point scorers for the teams."
