|Misenheimer, NC---The Pfeiffer men’s soccer team defeated visiting Barton College 3-0 Tuesday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action. Pfeiffer is now 6-4 on the season overall and 2-1 in conference play. Barton falls to 2-7-1 overall and 0-4-1 in conference. |
Matthew Harris scored 37 seconds in after a through pass from Nick Brindley found him one on one with the goalie. Harris calmly slid the ball past the keeper to give Pfeiffer an early 1-0 lead.
Austin Knight gave Pfeiffer a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute. Brindley sent another through pass and Knight dribbled around the goalie and sent the ball into the open net from 12 yards out.
At halftime the Falcon led 2-0.
Pfeiffer outshot Barton 12-1 in the first half.
Pfeiffer controlled the play in the second half and in the 60th minute it paid off with a third goal. After a Barton foul the Falcons quickly restarted play and caught the Bulldogs napping. Davi Lorenzo found Matt Harris open 15 yards out and Harris scored his second goal of the game.
George Cox, from Barton, had a good scoring chance into the 68th minute but his shot into the lower left corner was stopped by a diving save by Falcon keeper Alex Moreno.
The final fifteen minutes of play were wide open action up and down the field but neither team was able to score and Pfeiffer won 3-0.
Pfeiffer outshot Baton 18-5 for the game.
Pfeiffer will host Belmont-Abbey this Saturday at 1:00 pm.
