Misenheimer, NC---Megan Reaves scored two goals to lead the Pfeiffer women’s soccer team to a 3-0 win over Barton Tuesday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action. With the win Pfeiffer improves to 5-5-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference. Barton is now 2-3-4 overall and 2-1-2 in the conference.
Pfeiffer opened up attacking and got a goal in the fifth minute. A corner kick from Niki Reis found Megan Reaves open at the top of the 18 yard box. Reaves calmly shot the ball into the lower left corner of the goal to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. In the 20th minute Katie Franca hit a great shot from 30 yards out that beat the Barton keeper but the ball hit the crossbar and bounced away. Pfeiffer had another good scoring chance in the 39th minute when Stephanie Sexton’s header bounced off the left post after a nice pass from Megan Reaves. At halftime Pfeiffer led 1-0 with both teams having 5 shots. In the 47th minute Michelle Vaudreuil beat the keeper from 25 yards out but her shot hit the crossbar. Barton had a near goal in the 49th minute. Rachel Lawson hit a ball that was heading into the low left corner of the goal but Falcon defender Shannon Davis cleared it off the line to preserve the 1-0 Falcon lead. Ashley Hawkins had a breakaway in the 79th minute but another Falcon shot went off the post and bounced away. The Falcons finally got their second goal in the 83rd minute. Madison Kerth sent a ball toward goal from the right side and found an open Kirsten Bartsch who stuck it in from 5 yards out. Pfeiffer scored a third goal two minutes later on another Megan Reaves goal. Reaves got the ball fifteen yards out and beat the keeper into the top of the goal and the Falcons lead 3-0. Suzie Hinman had four saves in earning the shutout for Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer will host Conference pre-season favorite Belmont-Abbey Saturday at 11:00 am. |
