Gaffney, SC---A last second tip-in gave Limestone an 80-78 victory over Pfeiffer in CVAC men's basketball action Thursday night. Tavares Cooper had 19 points and 8 rebounds for Pfeiffer(13-4,7-3) but it wasn't enough as Limestone(12-5,8-2) won this battle for second place in the CVAC.
Pfeiffer grabbed a quick 4-0 lead. Limestone came back and grabbed an 11-7 advantage.
DeMario Grier hit a three-pointer with 12:14 to go to cap a 8-0 Falcon run that gave Pfeiffer a 15-11 lead.
The teams traded the lead over the next six minutes.
A 8-0 Pfeiffer run gave them a 32-26 lead with 5:37 to go until halftime.
Pfeiffer went into the break up 38 to 33. DeMario Grier and Tavares Cooper each had nine points to lead the Falcons at the half.
A Tavares Cooper lay-up gave Pfeiffer an eight point advantage, 52-44, with 15:43 left. Limestone ccame back to tie the game at 52.
The two teams stayed even over the next nine minutes and with 5:52 to go the score was tied at 68.
Thomas Carr hit a three-pointer to give Pfeiffer a 71-68 lead.
A Cooper lay-up broke a 76-76 tie with only 1:27 left.
Limestone got the ball with 35 seconds left and the score tied at 78. A Saint shot with 4 seconds left missed but an rebound tip-in at hte buzzer gave Limestone a 80-78 win.
Tavares Cooper led Pfeiffer with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Robert McGriff added 13 points and 8 rebounds.
Pfeiffer will return to action Saturday. They will travel to Belmont-Abbey with a 7:30 pm tip-off.
