|Pfeiffer Defeats King 102-90|

Misenheimer, NC---Pfeiffer defeated King College(TN) 102-90 in the opening round of the Bobby Lutz Invitational Friday night. Seniors DeMario Grier and Tavares Cooper led the Falcons with 31 and 21 points. Pfeiffer will play Lees-McRae in the Championship Game tomorrow at 5:00 pm. UNC-Pembroke will play King College at 3:00 pm in the Consolation Game.
Pfeiffer came out fast building a 15-4 lead in the first four minutes. King went on a 7-0 run to get back in the game. For most of the rest of the half the Falcon lead remained between four and eight points. King scored the last four points to cut the Falcon lead to 45-43 at the break.
King shot an incredible 64% from the floor in the first half, including 7 for 10 from beyond the arc, to stay close. Pfeiffer outrebounded the Tornadoes 17-11. Pfeiffer also forced 14 turnovers, that led to 21 points. RuShaun Reeves had 17 first half points for King while Pfeiffer had eight different players score.
King hit an opening "three" to take the lead at the start of the second half and held it until the the 10:11 mark when Tavares Cooper hit a three-point shot to give the Falcons their first lead since halftime. Cooper scored the next five Falcon points to give Pfeiffer a 75-70 lead which the Falcons never relinquished. Pfeiffer's pressure defense wore down King and slowly the Falcons pulled away, going up by as much as 17 before finally winning 102-90.
DeMario Grier ended up with 31 points, 22 in the second half. Tavares Cooper had 21 points. Logan Call had a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. RuShaun Reeves had 22 points for King and Torrington Cox had 17 points and 8 rebounds.
King shot 58% from the field but Pfeiffer scored 44 points off 24 Tornado turnovers. Pfeiffer won the rebounding battle 34-28 and shot 81% from the free throw line(26-32).
Pfeiffer will play Lees-McRae tomorrow at 5:00 pm in the Bobby Lutz Invitational Championship Game.
