| MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Mary-Ashley Davino's header in the 85th minute off of Jackie Groff's restart from midfield lifted top-seeded Queens to a 2-1 victory over No. 4 seed Pfeiffer in the semifinal round of the 2006 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Friday afternoon. Neither team was able to take a shot in the first 26 minutes of the contest and the match remained scoreless until the 64th minute when a Queens foul led to a Pfeiffer penalty kick. Maria Reis converted the penalty kick to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. But the Royals answered with a penalty kick of their own 10 minutes later as Kari Byzewski tied the match in the 74th minute. Queens improves to 14-4-0, while Pfeiffer's season ends at 16-5-0. |
