|The Pfeiffer University women’s tennis team extended their winning streak to 5-0 with a solid 7-2 victory over Fayetteville State University on Thursday afternoon. This was a first ever meeting between the perennial CIAA powerhouse and the Falcons. Pfeiffer started strong with wins at the number 2 and 3 doubles matches. The #1 team of Stroup and Dominguez came from behind to force a tiebreaker but were unable to pull it out. |
Despite windy conditions, the Falcons stayed focused and won 5 of the 6 singles. Patti Dominguez, Mia Bobrowski, Juliana Reyes and Samantha Thomas all won in straight sets. Heather Smith won it in 3 sets and although Andrea Stroup came back to split sets at number one, she lost in a tiebreaker.
Coach Mary Ann Sunbury said, "We’re real pleased to get the win against Fayetteville State. They are a quality team that usually wins or finishes at the top of the CIAA conference. I was proud of our team in how they handled playing in 30 mile an hour winds that created havoc for both teams!"
The Falcons’ next home match will be Livingstone on Thursday, March 1 at 2 pm followed by Anderson University on Friday at 2:30.
