Pfeiffer University Set To Join USA South

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University has been accepted by the USA South Athletic Conference to begin the process of full membership within the Conference in a vote by the league presidents this morning. Pfeiffer is currently in the process of reclassifying from NCAA Division II to Division III and will begin USA South play in the 2017-18 season.

"I am delighted that the Council of the USA South Presidents agreed to add Pfeiffer University as a full member of the Conference," said Dr. Colleen Perry Keith, Pfeiffer University President. "I believe Pfeiffer is a great fit for USA South and look forward to watching our Falcons gain a strong foothold in this new conference."

"This is such an exciting time for Pfeiffer University and our athletic department," commented Vice President for Athletics Bob Reasso. "The USA South is an outstanding Division III conference. Their philosophy, and that of Division III, aligns with what we believe a student-athlete experience should be."

One of the oldest Division III conferences, the USA South was born in 1963 and originally consisted of six institutions. Currently, the USA South has grown to include 16 institutions for the start of the 2016-17 season and will be up to 19 with the additions of Pfeiffer, Brevard and Berea for the 2017-18 season. Of those 19 colleges, eight are located in North Carolina. Additionally, five are in Georgia, three are in Virginia, one is in Alabama, one is in Kentucky and one is in Tennessee.

As well as being known as a strong athletic conference, the league is even stronger academically. Annually, over 1,350 students comprise the USA South Academic All-Conference team.
