Pfeiffer Athletics Postpones Events Due to Impending Landfall of Hurricane Florence
Misenheimer, N.C. (Sept. 11, 2018) – The Pfeiffer University Athletics Department has postponed several upcoming athletic events as the region prepares for the impending landfall of Hurricane Florence.
The Falcon teams impacted include the men's and women's soccer teams as well as the Falcon volleyball team and men's tennis team.
The Falcon men's soccer match at William Peace University and the women's match at Ferrum on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Have been postponed along with the home volleyball match against Belmont Abbey on Friday, Sept. 14.
The men's and women's soccer matches on Saturday, Sept. 15 are also postponed. The Falcon men's soccer team was scheduled to travel to Piedmont for a USA South matchup while the women's soccer team was scheduled to be on the road at Washington & Lee for a nonconference match.
In addition, the Falcon men's tennis team was scheduled to compete in the Randolph College Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15, those matches have also been postponed.
Makeup dates will be announced as they are scheduled.
Pfeiffer University has a voluntary evacuation in place effective Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 6:00 p.m. In addition, the University has announced that all classes have been moved to online-only status at the Misenheimer, Raleigh and Charlotte campuses. The operating status of the University could change if conditions deteriorate in the coming days.
"The safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and spectators is our primary focus," said athletics director Danielle Lafferty. "Although athletic competition is important to us, risking the well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, opponents and those who support Falcon athletics is not appropriate given the severity of the pending weather situation in our area."
