Dawn Easley enters her sixth season as the head women’s lacrosse coach in the 2013-14 season and is no stranger to Pfeiffer University. Easley was a four-year starter for the Lady Falcons from 2001-2005 and had a two-year stint as Pfeiffer’s assistance coach from 2007-08 before being promoted to head coach the following season.
Entering this season, Easley is seven wins shy of becoming the all-time leader in coaching wins at Pfeiffer. She holds a career 58-21 record (.734 winning percentage) and 29-9 mark in Conference Carolinas play. Easley has led her team to a winning record every season she has been at the helm and double-digit win totals in five of her six seasons. She was named the Conference Coach of the Year in 2010.
Last season, Easley led the Lady Falcons to a 14-3 record, 5-1 conference mark and a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The 14 wins are second-most in school history and the Tournament showing was the team’s first ever NCAA appearance. She led Pfeiffer to a 10-0 home record and two victories over top-15 ranked teams, including a 10-8 win over No. 2 Le Moyne on March 6. Eight different players earned All-Conference selections, highlighted by Shannon Bonnel, who was named the conference’s Co-Player of the Year. Easley’s defensive unit was the best in the nation, allowing only 6.12 goals per game and Katherine Athens earned the Conference Defender of the Year award.
During the 2011 season, Easley’s Lady Falcons put together a 12-6 campaign and a 6-1 record in conference play. Her team advanced to the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championships as the No. 2 seed before falling to top-seeded Limestone.
In her two years as an assistant coach, Easley helped lead the program to a conference championship in 2007 and an overall record of 23-13. During her tenure, the Lady Falcons placed 10 players on the All-Conference team, five on the All-Region squad and had five All-American selections.
As a player, Easley twice served as the team’s co-captain and her accolades were numerous. They include: First Team CVAC All-Conference, First Team All-Region, Second Team Inside Lacrosse All-American, as well as First Team womenslacrosse.com All-American. She finished her career fifth all-time in points (102), third in goals (78) and fourth in groundballs (149), while leading the Lady Falcons to back-to-back Conference Championships in ’04 and ’05.
In the summers of 2009 and 2013, Easley competed in the FIL World Cup for the Haudenosaunee nation. She led her team to a seventh-place finish in 2013 and scored a goal in each of the team’s first six contests. She finished the competition with 11 goals, two assists, five ground balls and 14 draw controls in eight games.
Easley received a BA in Sports Management from Pfeiffer with a minor in Buisness Administration in 2005. She obtained her Masters in Sports Management from the United Sports Academy in Daphne, AL in 2007. She spent the 2005-06 school year teaching and coaching lacrosse at Ampleforth College in York, England.
Easley and her husband Joe, also a 2005 Pfeiffer graduate and four-year member of the basketball team, reside in Albemarle with their son Caleb.
