MISENHEIMER, N.C. – On senior day, The Pfeiffer Falcons overcame a four run first inning deficit from the King Tornado to rally to win 9-8 in extras. Falcons senior Tanner Mathis paced his team as he went 3-for-5 with a double and two singles.
Mathis got Pfeiffer on the board in the bottom of the first a with an RBI single to bring home lead-off hitter Derek Perry. After King starter Heath Lloyd struck out senior Andrew Toney, he then allowed an RBI single to Christian Marciano to cut into the King lead.
The Falcons were able to tie the score at four runs apiece in the bottom of the fourth as senior Cody McKenzie hit a one out single to right and then was moved over with a Perry double down the left field line. Reliever Gus Gill uncorked a wild pitching that allowing McKenzie to score. Jordan Eckard continued the rally with a big RBI single back up the middle to bring Perry around to score.
In the bottom of the fifth, Pfeiffer scored four with a two RBI double from Brandall Peters and a Marciano RBI single to go up 8-6.
The Tornado were able to tie it, 8-8, in the top of the seventh as Falcon reliever Will Altemueller allowed a Marcus Schreiber double down the right field line.
In tenth, Pfeiffer completed the comeback with Ira Dorin hitting a chopper to second base but the throw was mishandled by the first baseman, Dylan Sligh, allowing McKenzie to score.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Thursday as they start the Conference Carolinas tournament as they face Mount Olive in the first round.
