Fayetteville, N.C. – It was another tough loss for the Pfeiffer baseball team on Saturday afternoon as they fell in game two to Methodist 9-6. The Falcon pitching staff struggled throughout, giving up 11 hits and walking 9 Monarch hitters.
For the second straight game, Methodist jumped out to the early lead by an Alex Kachler RBI single to center field. Later in the inning, Jacob Austin doubled to left-center to put the Monarchs up 3-0.
The Falcons battled back in the second and third innings to even up the score at 3-3. Xavier Rodriguez took a bases loaded walk to score the first Pfeiffer run in the second inning. Mason Striplin and Kyler Fairchild each hit RBI singles in the third to even the score.
The Methodist lineup would prove to be too much however, as they would score the next six runs in just three innings to give themselves a cushion. Pfeiffer would once again try to battle back with three runs of their own late, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the Monarchs.
Mason Striplin had a big game at the plate for the Falcons, going 4-5 with 2 RBI's. Senior Derek Perry also got in on the action, going 1-4 with an RBI and a walk. Pfeiffer combined for 12 hits on the afternoon, including collecting 6 walks. Matthew Lambert got the start on the mound for Pfeiffer, but lasted just one inning while giving up 3 earned runs and walking 3.
For Methodist, first baseman Jacob Austin had a two hit game while driving in two. Ethan Carmack also had two hits and two RBI's.
The Falcons will look to avoid a three game sweep at the hands of the Monarchs when they face off again Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
