Pfeiffer's Win Streak Reaches 11 With Double Header Sweep Of N.C. Wesleyan

Misenheimer, N.C. -- It was another great day at Joe Ferebee Field on Sunday as the Pfeiffer baseball team (23-7) swept a double-header against N.C. Wesleyan (19-20). The two wins raise the Falcons win streak to 11 games and completed a three game sweep of the Battling Bishops.

Game One: Pfeiffer 17, N.C. Wesleyan 3

Pfeiffer brought the lumber in game one, scoring 17 runs on 13 hits. Senior Derek Perry had a big day at the plate, going 3-4 with a homerun, a double, and 3 RBI's. Two other Falcons who went yard in game one, Jordan Eckard and Christian Marciano, combined for 3 hits and 7 RBI's. Senior outfielder Damon Smith came through with a great game by going 3-4 with 3 runs scored. Smith also drove in a run with an RBI double in the 4th inning.

The Falcons had multiple big innings in game one, including a 7 run 2nd inning. The scoring started in the inning with a bases loaded walk by Bryan Kowalski, and then an RBI single by Perry. Two batters later, Jordan Eckard took one out to left field for a grand slam to make the score 8-0.

Pfeiffer would add 3 more in the 3rd off of a Kowalski sacrifice fly, a Derek Perry solo homer, and a Christian Marciano RBI double. In the 5th, Pfeiffer would tack on 4 more runs to bring the score to 17-2. Marciano would hit a no doubter to left field to drive in 2 runs, while a Bryan Kowalski 2 RBI single brought his RBI total for the game to 4.

Matthew Lambert got the start on the mound for the Falcons. Lambert would go 6 innings and give up just 2 hits while walking 6 and striking out 5.

Game Two: Pfeiffer 9, N.C. Wesleyan 4

Game Two saw Pfeiffer score 9 more runs as the offense stayed hot. Although the Falcons got down 3-0 early, the offense helped dig them out of that early hole and Will Altemueller pitched a sold 7 innings to get the win.

Kirby Lambert and Mason Striplin would star for the Pfeiffer offense in this one. Lambert would go 3-4 with 3 runs scored. Lambert also belted his 11th homerun of the year in the 7th inning. Meanwhile, Striplin would go 4-5 with a double on the afternoon.

The 5th inning saw the Falcons pull ahead for the first time in the game. Lambert would drive in the first run of the inning with an RBI double. Christian Marciano would then come up and single to right field to score 2 more to give Pfeiffer a 4-3 lead.

Lambert would drive in 2 more runs over the next two innings to complete his 4 RBI day. In the 8th, Marciano would come up and hit another homerun for a two run homer to put the game away.

Will Altemueller took the bump for Pfeiffer and didn't disappoint. Altemueller went 7 innings and gave up 3 runs while striking out 5. Cameron Reid would also come in and pitch a scoreless 8th inning to raise his scoreless innings streak to 20. Xavier Rodriguez came in and pitched a scoreless 9th to seal the win.

The Falcons take the field again next Saturday as they play host to Brevard. Saturday's game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
