Misenheimer, N.C. – The Pfeiffer baseball team (31-7) completed their regular season by winning their 19th game in a row with a 9-2 victory over Piedmont International. The win is the 31st on the year for the Falcons and now they await a possible birth into the ECAC tournament.
As it has all season, the Pfeiffer offense was the story on Monday night. With the game tied 1-1, the Falcons scored 5 runs in the bottom of the third inning to break the game open. While the long ball has been a big key to the success of the Pfeiffer offense this season, this game would take more of a traditional rout for the Falcons as they came through with 9 runs on 10 hits, none of which were homers.
Mason Striplin and Kirby Lambert came through with 2 hits each on the night. Striplin would also drive in 3 runs while Lambert drove in 1. Leadoff man Derek Perry also had a solid game at the plate, walking twice and scoring once.
Pfeiffer's pitching staff wasn't too shabby either, with Nick Richmond, Matthew Lambert, Will Altemueller, Cameron Reid, and Brodrick Rierson combining for 7 innings, 11 strikeouts, and just 1 earned run. Richmond got the start and went 2 innings and struck out 4. Reid also had a solid inning by striking out 2 of the 4 batters he faced.
The Falcons had an unforgettable season as they went 18-1 on their home turf, while also going 12-4 on the road. Pfeiffer had a ridiculous .348 team batting average and 49 homeruns in 38 games. Their 31-7 record was good for a .816 winning percentage for the year.
