Dominating First Half Leads Pfeiffer Past Columbia International

The Pfeiffer men's basketball team put on another clinic tonight as they defeated Columbia International (3-11) 120-68. The Falcons (10-0) continue their red hot start to the season as they keep their undefeated streak alive. Pfeiffer was led by Josiah Avington, Josh Calhoun, and freshman Luke Storey who all had 15 points each on the night.

The Falcons were relentless on both ends of the court, shooting 52 percent from the field, while forcing 32 turnovers on the defensive end. It was an explosive first half that gave Pfeiffer a 42 point lead at halftime. In that first half, the Falcons shot 44 percent from long range and 56 percent from the floor. Combined with two highlight reel dunks by Marcus Sawyers, the Falcons dominated the half and gave the Rams little hope as the teams began half number two.

Pfeiffer had control throughout the second half as well, outscoring Columbia International 38-28. Nolan Whitener came off the bench and gave the Falcons a big spark, as he scored 11 points, while going 5-6 from the field. Whitener also dominated the glass, collecting 12 rebounds and earning his second straight double-double. The Pfeiffer bench outscored the Rams' bench by a whopping 38 points for the contest.

Columbia International was led by Zachary Baker, who had 16 points off the bench. Freshman Micah Banks also contributed with 10 points of his own. Despite their efforts, the Rams' offense turned the ball over 32 times, while shooting 45 percent from the field.

The Falcons dominated in just about every category on the night, including out rebounding Columbia International 51-30, and out scoring the Rams in the paint 54-18.

Pfeiffer will try to keep their undefeated record alive as they return to action with a home matchup with Carolina Christian this Saturday afternoon at 4:00.
