MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer men's basketball team (15-4) dropped a 99-81 game to Piedmont (13-9) on Sunday afternoon for just the second loss inside Merner Gym this season. The Falcons were led by Brian Harper who scored 17 points.
Pfeiffer had trouble stopping center Justin Vallejo who went 14-for-21 from the field and finished with 33 points and 10 rebounds. Elijah Alston added 19 points for the Lions.
The Lions came out firing in the first half and connected on their first seven attempts from behind the arc. For the half, Piedmont shot 67.9 percent from the field and 77.8 percent from long range to take a 51-40 lead into the break.
Tyjarek Simmons provided some solid minutes in the second half, scoring seven points in his seven minutes.
A 3-pointer by Craig Sabb cut the Piedmont lead to 57-50 just over four minutes into the second half but Pfeiffer was unable to pull any closer the rest of the way.
For the game, Piedmont shot 57.1 percent from the floor, compared to Pfeiffer's 35.1 percent. The Lions also dominated on the glass, grabbing a 47-30 advantage on the boards.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday when they travel to Huntingdon for a 5 p.m. contest.
