Hot Shooting Covenant Takes 87-66 Win Over Pfeiffer Men
Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 5, 2019) – Visiting Covenant College bolted out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back, downing the Pfeiffer University men's basketball team 87-66 at Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots (6-6, 5-0 USA South) shot 61.5% from the field (33-of-52) and hit 14 three-pointers while going 60.9% from long range in the win. Will Crumly lead the way with 27 points and 11 rebounds while teammate Bailey Spragg had 21 points. James Mitchell had four three pointers, finishing with 12 points while Noah Oetjen went 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, finishing with 11 points in the win.
For the Falcons, Tyjarek Simmons (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) scored 18 points off the bench, knocking down three from distance and finishing 7-of-14 from the field. Teammate Josiah Avington (Fredericksburg, Va.) was the only other Falcon to score in double figures, chipping in 12 points.
Nolan Whitener (Vale, N.C.) had a good outing, pulling down 11 rebounds and scoring five points for the Falcons, while teammate and USA South scoring leader Kyle Riddley (Charlotte, N.C.) was held to just nine points on the afternoon
The loss drops the Falcons to 5-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play. Pfeiffer will return to USA South play on Tuesday, Jan. 8 with a 7:30 p.m. game at Methodist.
