Pfeiffer Men's Basketball Drops Tense 82-78 Decision at Piedmont

Demorest, Ga. (Jan. 12, 2019) –
  Piedmont College got 32 points from Marquise Lanier and held off the Pfeiffer men's basketball team down the stretch, taking an 82-78 USA South win at Cave Arena in Demorest, Ga. On Saturday afternoon.

With the Falcons holding a 76-73 following an Josiah Avington (Fredericksburg, Va.) layup, the Lions responded with a 9-2 run to close out the game. Following a layup from Lanier that made it 76-75 with just 1:18 to play, Piedmont would hit 8-of-9 free throw attempts to ice the game.

Pfieffer went cold over the final moments, getting only one basket, courtesy of Craig Sabb (Goose Creek, S.C.) with six seconds to play, making it 80-78.

Piedmont would grab the 82-78 lead following two free throws from Taylor Mills with inside five seconds to play and Avington's three-point attempt as time wound down fell of the mark, sending the Falcons to the loss.

As a team, Pfeiffer managed just a 36.8% (25-of-68) effort from the field and a 21.6% (8-of-37) mark from long range.

Leading the way for the Falcons was Craig Sabb, who dropped 17 points and picking up seven rebounds.  Teammate Kyle Riddley (Charlotte, N.C.) finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.  Tyjarek Simmons (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) continued his stellar play of late, finishing with 11 points.

The loss drops Pfeiffer to 7-7 overall and 2-5 in league play while Piedmont improves to 2-13 and 2-7 in the USA South.
