FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team (1-0) opened up the 2018 campaign with a dominating 17-5 win over familiar foe Emmanuel (0-1) on Saturday afternoon. In the victory, Blade Garlow topped 100 career points as the senior notched seven goals and two assists.
Garlow needed just six points to reach triple digits for his career and would reach that mark with 6:07 to play in the 3rd quarter on the Falcons 10th goal of the evening.
"It's great to see Blade reach 100 points for his career," said Head Coach Scott Nelson following the victory. "He has become a great lacrosse player and represents the game very well."
Nelson, who enters his second season at the helm, was encouraged by what he saw from his team this evening.
"The weather was lousy but the guys played really hard. It was rough getting started but I thought our defense played great until the offense got going."
The Falcons managed just two goals in the first quarter on a muddy and foggy evening. However, Pfeiffer would erupt for 15 in the next three quarters to put the game away.
After taking an 8-3 lead into the break, Pfeiffer scored six straight goals to stop any thoughts of a comeback from Emmanuel. Jared Nelson and Garlow combined for four of Pfeiffer's six strikes in that stretch and John Allen and Alex Skidmore added the others.
For the game, Nelson recorded three goals and handed out four assists. Allen would net three goals and Luke Cox added a pair.
Nathan Walker made his first career start in goal and made eight stops to record the victory.
In total, Pfeiffer held a 39-28 advantage in shots and went 2-for-5 with the man advantage.
Pfeiffer returns to action next Saturday as they host Southern Virginia in the home opener. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
