Misenheimer, N.C. (March 27, 2019) The Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team rode a big fourth quarter in taking a 14-7 nonconference win over visiting Ferrum at a chilly Lefko Field on Wednesday night

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Eight different players scored for Pfeiffer on the night, with Luke Cox and John Allen each notching three goals.  Jared Nelson and Spencer Stokes each had a pair of goals in the win while the rest of the scoring were single goals by Jaylin Jones, Treven King, Ben Zahorec and Jordan Fitzpatrick.

Jared Nelson had a team-best three assists while Jacob Leone added two.  Luke Cox, Jaylin Jones and Spencer Stokes each had an assist in the win.

Pfeiffer goalkeeper Tom Romanik had another great outing, stopping 14 Panther shots and earning his sixth win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED


First Quarter

Ferrum started quickly, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead.  The Panthers two goals came within six seconds of each other with Mackoy Bodmer and Austin Nowlin scoring at 9:52 and 9:46, respectively.

Pfeiffer responded with four unanswered goals, the first coming off the stick of John Allen with a pass from Jacob Leone at 8:24.  Allen added another goal at 7:53 off a pass from Stokes to tie the game at 2-2.

Jared Nelson put the Falcons up 3-2 on an unassisted goal at 3:18, then Luke Cox scored on a man-up opportunity with 27 seconds to go in the quarter on a Nelson feed, giving the Falcons the 4-2 lead after the first quarter.

Second Quarter
Ferrum notched the first two goals of the second quarter to tie the game at 4-4, but Pfeiffer once again jumped out front, this time on an unassisted Spencer Stokes goal at 3:53.  Cox then scored another man-up goal with 3:11 left to provide the 6-4 lead that Pfeiffer would carry into halftime.

Third Quarter
Each team would score twice in the third quarter with Ferrum once again scoring first and drawing to within 6-5 at the 11:08 mark.  Pfeiffer then scored on a John Allen goal from Luke Cox to push the lead to 7-5. Ferrum would draw to within 7-6 with a Cam Steeley goal at 8:44, but Pfeiffer would close the scoring in the quarter with a Jaylin Jones unassisted goal at 7:06 to make it 8-6 heading into the final quarter.


Fourth Quarter

Pfeiffer would take control in the fourth by scoring six unanswered goals to lead 14-6.  In that scoring streak, Ben Zahorec scored his fourth goal of the season while Jordan Fitzpatrick got his first of the season to make it 12-6.  Trevin King and Luke Cox capped the Falcon scoring at 8:58 and 2:49.  Ferrum scored with 58 seconds left to provide the 14-7 final.
