Men's Tennis Drops Tough Match Against Methodist

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer men's tennis hosted Methodist at the Knapp Tennis Center on February 10th.

The match started out well for the Falcons as they were able to get up 2-1 after doubles. Although Axel Woerner and Raul Ruiz fell 8-3 to the Monarchs, the remaining doubles pairs were able to pull off wins. Bjorn Barwinski and Eduan Louw fought their way to a 9-7 victory over John Dangerfield and Wynn Johnson. David Weir and Brandon Marchant had a convincing win against their pair Kaythan Alikhani and Dan Wolf barely dropping any games and winning 8-2. This gave the Falcons a strong 2-1 lead Hardig into the singles matches.

Unfortunately, the singles matches took surprising turns. Barwinski had a strong win over his opponent Oehser winning 6-4, 6-4. Weir also took a strong victory over his opponent Johnson winning the first set 6-4 and crushing through the second to win it 6-0. There were losses on the rest of the board for the Falcons however. After a game full of serve and volley from number one player Woerner, he was defeated 5-7, 3-6. Louw placed at four singles and started well winning the first set 6-1, however struggled to keep up the momentum throughout the rest of the match, falling in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 2-6. Freshman Raul Ruiz lost the first set 2-6 and made a convincing comeback in the second set after being 5-2 down, bringing it back to 5-5. Unfortunately Dangerfield proved too strong and broke Ruiz at the crucial game of 6-5 and won the match. Brandon Marchant was defeated 1-6, 1-6 by opponent Jacob Grace.

The Falcons will fight again tomorrow as they take on William Peace University in Raleigh.
