MISENHEIMER, NC – The Pfeiffer University men's tennis team (6-9, 2-5 CC) suffered a pair of tight 5-4 Conference Carolinas losses over the weekend, falling to North Greenville on Saturday and Southern Wesleyan on Sunday.
Led by Bjorn Barwinski/Thomas Hubble and Axel Woerner/Raul Ruiz at the No. 1 and 2 doubles, the Falcons were able to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead over NGU before losing at the third position. The Crusaders stole wins at the top two singles positions before Barwinski responded with a strong 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 to bring it to an even 3-3 tie.
After trading wins at No. 4 and 5, North Greenville clinched the overall match win when Ausint Schlarb earned a narrow victory over Eduan Louw at No. 6, 6-4, 7-5.
Against Southern Wesleyan, Pfeiffer once again found itself with an early lead after doubles wins at the top two positions. Unfortunately, the Warriors were stout in singles, claiming wins at every position but No. 3 and 5. Hubble claimed a hard-fought 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 win over Daniel Bolivar, as did David Weir against his opponent (6-1, 6-4).
The Falcons will get a few days rest before enduring a jam-packed weekend schedule when they take on Radford (Fri, Apr. 7), Belmont Abbey (Sat, Apr. 8), and Johnson C. Smith (Sun, Apr. 9) at the Knapp Tennis Center.
