MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Conference Carolinas announced its 2017 tennis award winners Thursday evening and Pfeiffer senior Olivia Nelms was named Conference Women's Player of the Year as well as first team singles. Seniors Mylene Petitpas and Alex Woerner were also awarded as second team singles all-conference.
Nelms (Chesterfield, England), was magnificent for Pfeiffer this season, compiling a 14-2 overall record with a 10-1 mark against conference competition while exclusively at the No. 1 singles position. All 14 of her wins came in two sets or less.
Nelms bookends her illustrious career with her second player of the year award after receiving the honor as a freshman in 2014. In her four resounding years of success with the Falcons, she put together a 65-7 (39-2) overall record. Nelms earned first team all-conference honors every year on campus.
Petitpas (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) also concludes what has been a tremendous four-year career with Pfeiffer. In 2017, she went 12-4 (8-3) at the No. 2 singles position, bringing her overall record to 53-17 (28-9), which includes an undefeated conference mark (9-0) as a sophomore in 2015. Petitpas was named third team all-conference that season.
Woerner (Stuttgart, Germany) was strong in his final go-round for the Falcons, recording a 9-8 (6-4) record predominantly at the top singles position. He and teammate Raul Ruiz were an electric duo, finishing 13-4 while spending most of their time at No. 2 doubles. With 46 career wins in singles and a 24-12 record in Conference Carolinas, Woerner now owns a pair of second team honors in addition to his third team award as a freshman in 2014.
