Falcons End Season with Loss to Mount Olive in CC Tournament

SUMTER, S.C. – The Pfeiffer University men's tennis season fell to Mount Olive in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament by a final of 5-0 on Friday morning at the Palmetto Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Falcons conclude their 2016-17 campaign; No. 1-seeded UMO moves on to play in the conference semifinals.

Mount Olive was crisp from the beginning, taking victories at all three doubles spots. The tandem of Jose Cortijos / Martim Sousa earned an 8-1 win over Thomas Hubble / Bjorn Barwinski at the top doubles position, while Ogulcan Deniz / Martin Moser and Brandon Marchant / David Weir won at the second and third positions.

After suffering a sweep in doubles, Axel Woerner was beaten by Deniz, 6-2, 6-3 at the number one singles. Jack Middleton then sealed the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Raul Ruiz at number five, as the other games went unfinished.
