BURLINGTON, N.C. - The Pfeiffer softball team's quest for a second straight Conference Carolinas Tournament championship fell short as the Falcons (44-6) fell to North Greenville (35-17) in the tournament final. Amanda Coffrin pitched NGU to their first ever Conference Tournament Title with a complete game shutout in the Crusaders 4-0 victory.

Coffrin was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament as she tossed seven innings and allowed just five hits. Pfeiffer had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the seventh but Coffrin got the final two outs to send North Greenville on to the NCAA Tournament.

Kiana Millsaps suffered her third loss of the year by allowing two runs in 1.1 innings pitched. Sydney Poole entered in relief and pitched the final 5.2 innings  and allowed one earned run.

North Greenville struck for single runs in the first, second, fifth and seventh innings. The No. 3 seed banged out 11 hits, compared to just five from the Falcons.

Makenzie Pennell led Pfeiffer with two hits and Emma Tuttle went 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

Following the tournament, Poole, Rachel Crowder and Kaitlin MacMillan were named to the All-Tournament team.

Pfeiffer will figure out its NCAA Tournament fate on Monday, May 8 when the selection committee unveils the 2017 bracket. Pfeiffer was ranked No. 7 in last week's regional poll, with eight teams from the Southeast Region earning bids to the national tournament. Despite a 44-6 season record and 18-2 mark in conference play, the No. 6 team in the NFCA national poll is fighting for one of the final spots in the region.
