MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer softball team will find out its postseason fate on Monday, May 8 as NCAA Division II announces its 2017 softball bracket at 10 a.m. The brackets will be unveiled here: http://www.ncaa.com/live/player?vid=2017/3050&date=2017/05/08
The Falcons currently sit at No. 7 in the Southeast regional rankings with eight teams in the region earning a bid. Pfeiffer owns a 44-6 overall record and has broken the single season marks for most wins and highest winning percentage. In the NFCA national poll, coaches have voted Pfeiffer as the No. 8 team in all of Division II but the regional rankings have been less kind.
The Falcons will look to advance to their second straight NCAA Tournament, qualifying as the No. 6 seed in 2016. Pfeiffer defeated Lenoir-Rhyne to capture their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory and would beat the Bears twice in the same weekend. However, Pfeiffer couldn't overcome Armstrong State's tough pitching, falling twice to the Pirates.
Prior to 2016, the Falcons qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2008 but went 0-2 in tournament play.
Pfeiffer captured their first Conference Carolinas regular season crown since 2000 thanks to an 18-2 mark in league play. The Falcons finished a game ahead of Limestone in the conference standings but their quest to repeat as Conference Tournament champions came up just short when North Greenville defeated Pfeiffer in this year's championship game.
