HIGH POINT, N.C. – Conference Carolinas is proud to announce the Spring Scholar Athletes of the Year, as voted on by the student-athlete affairs committee. This prestigious award is presented annually to a student-athlete in each sport for recognition of their outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom.
Rachel Crowder was named the league's Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year. Crowder was a First-Team All-Conference Selection in 2017. She helped the Falcons to the most wins in program history (44) and their highest ever national ranking (#2). She started and caught all 54 games. Crowder hit .284 this season, driving in 31 runs. She drew 26 walks and scored 33 times. Academically, Crowder earned Academic All-Conference honors with a 3.8 GPA in Pre-Med.
Candidates are submitted by each member institution from each of the conference's twenty sponsored sports. To be considered for the honor, the student-athlete must have attended their member institution for at least one year and have reached junior or senior standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher on the four-point scale. Scholar Athletes of the Year must also be represented on their sport's first, second, or third all-conference team, the rosters of which are chosen by coaches at the end of each playing season.
