Pfeiffer Completes 12-0 Season at Home With 69-64 Victory Over Brevard

Misenheimer, N.C. -- The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (19-3) capped off a 12-0 season on their home court on senior day by defeating Brevard (11-12) 69-65. This is the first undefeated season at home for the women's basketball team since the 2002-2003 season. The Falcons' amazing season continued with a close contest that saw the game come right down to the wire, with Pfeiffer edging out the Tornadoes by hitting clutch free throws in the fourth quarter.

Junior guard Sydni Bickford led the Falcons in scoring with 16 points. Bickford shot 4-10 from long range, as well as coming up with 3 blocks and 3 rebounds. Freshman A'Mya McClain came up big as well, scoring 14 points while shooting 44 percent from the floor and 6-6 from the free throw line. McClain put the game away in the final seconds with two huge free throws to seal the victory. Senior point guard Dajea Scott put in 12 points of her own, while collecting 9 boards, 7 assists, and going 8-10 from the charity stripe.

It was an electric crowd that filled Merner Gym to support Pfeiffer and they were not disappointed. The Falcons got off to a hot start in the first quarter, outscoring Brevard 18-9. Bickford scored 9 of her 16 points in the first period. The Tornadoes drew closer in the second quarter by out-scoring Pfeiffer 20-14 to make it a 3 point game at the half. After a close third quarter, it all came down to the final 10 minutes of play, with the Falcons up by 4 entering the fourth quarter. Pfeiffer started out the quarter by extending their lead to double-digits. However, Brevard would answer with three straight three pointers of their own to trim the lead to 1 with just under three minutes to play. The Falcons would come through with big free throws down the stretch to close the game out on a 6-3 run and complete their undefeated season at home.

It was another strong effort for the Pfeiffer defense, forcing 24 turnovers on the afternoon. The Falcons turned those turnovers in to 24 points. Pfeiffer won the points off turnover battle 24-5. The Falcons shot 18 more free throws than the Tornadoes, while going 29-39 from the line. Pfeiffer also had the advantage in second chance points, outscoring Brevard 16-14.

For the Tornadoes, junior guard Annalee Bollinger led the team with 14 points. She also collected 10 rebounds to earn a double-double. Ty'She Washington came through with 13 points and 13 rebounds on the contest, while going 2-4 from behind the arc.

Pfeiffer is down to their final two regular season games of the season, both of which will be played against the same Tornadoes squad on the road. Their next game is scheduled for Friday, February 23 at 5:30, and their final game of the season is scheduled for Saturday, February 24 at 4:00.
