Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Travels to Randolph for Season Opener

Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 9, 2018) –The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team will begin the 2018-19 season on the road with a game at Randolph College.

Coming off a successful 20-5 campaign last season, the Falcons return the leading scorer from last year in Sydni Bickford (Concord, N.C.). Bickford, a senior guard, torched the opposition to the tune of 15.6 ppg. while knocking down 85 three- pointers.  She shot 39% from the field and 37.3% from long range.  Her best outing last season came in a 33-point outburst against William Peace on Feb. 4. She managed double-figures in 18 of the 25 games she appeared and eclipsed the 20 point mark in eight games.

Also looking to do major damage for the Falcons is sophomore guard A'Mya McClain.  The Hickory, N.C. native averaged 8.6 ppg. last year and led the Falcons with 51 steals.  She also dished 42 assists and was efficient from the free throw line, hitting 79.1% of her opportunities.

Sophomore guard Shalonda Wilkins (Chesterfield, Va.) also returns after playing in all 25 games last season while averaging 6.2 ppg.

Junior transfer Ja'Mia Johnson (Durham, N.C.) will look to add an inside presence for the Falcons.  Johnson comes to Pfeiffer after spending two seasons at Johnson C. Smith University in nearby Charlotte.  While with the Golden Bulls, Johnson helped JCSU to the 2017 CIAA Championship and an NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament appearance.  Last season, Johnson played in 26 games, averaging 2.6 ppg while bringing down 5.3 rebounds per contest.  She scored a season-high 13 points against rival Livingstone and had 12 rebounds against Gannon and Puerto Rico-Bayamon.

Randolph enters this season after finishing 5-20 in 2017-18.  The Wildcats will begin the season with four returners and six newcomers, highlighted by Kalyn Banks, who averaged 9.7 ppg. last season while shooting 47.1% from the field.

Tipoff from the RAD Center is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
