N.C. Wesleyan Takes 70-59 USA South Win Over Pfeiffer Women's Basketball

Misenheimer, N.C. (Dec. 12, 2018)
– Visiting N.C. Wesleyan used a big third quarter and cruised to a 70-59 USA South women's basketball win over the Pfeiffer Falcons on Wednesday night in Merner Gym.

Pfeiffer trailed 30-29 at the half, but the visiting Bishops held the Falcons to just 16.7% shooting in the third quarter (2-of-12), outscoring the host Falcons 22-11 and taking a commanding 52-40 lead.

Pfeiffer was able to cut the lead to nine points on two occasions in the fourth quarter.  Following a
Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.) layup at the 4:51 mark that drew the Falcons to within 60-51, N.C. Wesleyan responded with a three-pointer on their next possession to go back up 63-51.

Pfeiffer again brought it back to nine points after a Ja'Mia Johnson (Durham, N.C.) basket with 2:40 to play, making it 66-57.

That would be the closest the Falcons would get, as N.C. Wesleyan earned the 70-59 win.

Individually, Pfeiffer got 16 points each from Bentley and A'Mya McClain (Birmingham, Ala.).  Bentley also added a team-high seven rebounds.

N.C. Wesleyan's Cydney Nichols tallied a game-high 26 points while Javana Jones had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The loss drops Pfeiffer to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in USA South play while N.C. Wesleyan improves to 2-6 and 1-0 in league play.

Pfeiffer will hit the road for their next game, travelling to USA South foe Salem on Friday, Dec. 14. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
